The prolific Dutch photographer and journalist Willem van de Poll (1895-1970) visited Rosslare on at least two occasions in 1930 and 1932. During this period and leading up to the Second World War, he established his international reputation as photojournalist for Associated Press with his coverage of the Middle East, but also as fashion photographer for such notable publications as Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Today he is best known in the Netherlands for his work as the house photographer of the Dutch royal family.
Following his retirement in the 1960s, Willem van de Poll moved to Switzerland. His extensive photographic archive is now preserved by the Nationaal Archief, the national archives of the Netherlands. In 2006, the Fotomuseum of Den Haag celebrated Willem van de Poll's impressive body of work with a large retrospective.
