Our Eco-Code

Our eco-code informs our activities across the Ports Past and Present project. All project partners embrace the principles of sustainability. Here are some of the ways:

Waste Prevention, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

  • We will prevent, reduce, repair, reuse and recycle to minimise waste wherever possible.
  • Manage waste generated according to the principles of the waste hierarchy
  • Reuse of material will be given preference over acquisition of new items

Transport

  • We will encourage more environmentally friendly ways for travel and organisation business will be conducted through the most environmentally sustainable mode of transport available
  • Work collaboratively across units to reduce carbon emissions generated in by the project operations
  • Reduce need for travel where possible using ICT
  • Utilise, promote and enhance public transport wherever possible

Water

We will save water wherever possible:

  • Turn off taps when not use
  • Promote the use of reusable water bottles at events
  • Follow water conservation best practice

Energy

  • Turn off all heating/lighting when not needed
  • Use heating controls to swiftly react to different daily heating needs
  • Install effective insulation, close all doors/windows in winter
  • Turn off heating during weekends and holiday periods

Raising Awareness

We will promote environmental awareness among the users of project sites:  

  • Place prominent notices and posters around the organisation premises
  • Promote eco-tourism in our social media and online activities
  • Encourage greater appreciation for the natural environment in our social media posts, where possible
  • Promote sustainable tourism EU projects in our social media

Biodiversity

  • Promote biodiversity online and through our social media
  • All infrastructure/installations to be discreet and to have zero impact on biodiversity
